Room reveal: Miss H’s bedroom

Concept, design, specification, install and styling – phew! Talk about “concept to completion”! We loved every minute. Thank you H for allowing us to be a part of the space that is set to form the backdrop of so many memories throughout your teenage years xx

It was so much fun designing and bringing to life a beautiful new bedroom for a gorgeous “soon-to-be-11” young lady. This room was to be a surprise from her parents for her upcoming birthday – what a treat! Although she knew that her room was getting a makeover, every other detail was kept secret until the morning of her birthday. This was such a privilege to be part of, and we’re so happy that she was thrilled with the result!

The brief was to revamp the bedroom, make it feel more grown up yet still fun, and to ensure that it could continue to grow with her for years to come. The existing room had served it’s purpose, yet it was now time for a change.

The family home was already very beautiful (we have shared snippets of it in the past), so H’s new room needed to feel part of the home whilst also being a tiny pocket which would be entirely her own. She has a very kind soul and loves making everyone happy, and she was clear on what she didn’t like in a little pre-briefing questionnaire. She needed a new double bed, revamped wardrobe internals, and a desk, and we needed to take into account her love of dancing and reading.

Fashion and food, for a bedroom?!

You have heard this from us many times before – inspiration is literally everywhere! For this project, fashion and food photography were the main sources – the colours, textures, patterns and layering within these particular images all fit the brief perfectly. It was then all about sourcing the pieces which fit within the budget and hit all elements of the brief, whilst being durable and practical.

A place for everything, and everything in its place

Spatial planning was SO important here, because we had to make sure that this modestly sized room worked very hard, without any wasted space, whilst still feeling spacious and having an excellent flow.

Here’s a rundown of all the elements we included:

Patterned wallpaper - subtle, yet just enough colour and pattern to bring character to the space. we couldn’t imagine the room without it!

Four poster bed – for a little bit of drama, to add height and just because it’s fun!

Bed linen – subtle pattern on pattern, layered texture and colour, and lots of plush pillows to feel super grown up and luxurious

Cute wall print - brings all the elements together, and in just the right size

Sheer curtains – to filter light, add height and softness

Rug – softness underfoot, more colour and pattern

Velvet chair – to further accentuate the colour of the rug and print, and it’s so comfy to sit and study or read in, feeling very luxe indeed

“H” decal - to update her door sign, and repeated on a mug as a cute little detail

Desk with storage

Felt pinboard, wall shelves for trophies and displaying pictures

Dressing table – more storage, and this becomes a makeup table with a mirror above

New wardrobe internals – to make the most of all the available space, and keep clean clothes nice and tidy!

Lamps – repeat elements of black, brass and stripes, and very practical as they simply clamp on, plug in and pivot; very easily moved and readjusted as needed
